PROFESSOR ISHAQ FUNSHO ABDUL (MBBS; MBA, MSc, FWACS, FIMCN, CMS, CMC) is a professor at the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. He is a compassionate medical/health, teacher/administrator who has successfully trained Hundreds of medical graduates and over a Hundred specialists (teacher of teachers) in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology spanning over 27 years.
Professor Abdul graduated from the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria (MBBS) in 1988, the West African Postgraduate Medical College (FACS) in 1996, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, Nigeria (MBA) 2008, and the University College London (MSC Prenatal Genetics and Fetal Medicine) in 2019. He completed the USAID/MSH board governance training in 2009 and attended the Institute of Social Studies (ISS), The Hague, Netherlands 2003, the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria in 2019.
Professor Abdul was a successful past head of the department, member of the Faculty/College academic boards, development committee, chief examiner, the university senate, and acting Director of the Technical and Entrepreneurship centre (TEC) that had a combined population of over 20,000 students. He has been an external examiner in other universities apart from being an external assessor for professorial promotions. An astute professional administrator who has been the National secretary general of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) as well as board member of the Kwara state council for the prerogative of mercy and medical and dental council of Nigeria (MDCN).
He has extensive research experience in the field of women’s health with peer reviewed articles in several international journals of obstetrics and gynecology as well as being a reviewer currently for the International Journal of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the European Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (IJOG and EJOGRB) among others. He also has extensive United Kingdom (UK) practice experience including participation in quality improvement study at the Southend University Hospital NHS Trust as well as been a specialty locum doctor at several other UK hospitals.
